Secure your web…

- Bruno Martin, Safety Counsellor

Did you know that some spiders can get caught in their own web? Generally, spiders avoid this deadly trap by knowing every part of their web and recognizing the sticky and non-sticky threads they produce. Their ultra-sensitive legs guide them over their web until one day something scares them or distracts them and it's the end…

On a construction site, poor housekeeping force workers to thread their way through many dangers until the day a worker falls into a hole, trips on an extension cord, hits his head against something sticking out, etc.

The worker with an unsafe mentality, sneaks through the web by being efficient and productive, sometimes even to the pleasure of his supervisor not more safety-conscious. It only takes an out of the ordinary event (fatigue, lack of focus, being on autopilot) for our efficient worker to fall or get caught in his own web.

The best way to avoid getting caught in our own web is to analyze the dangers on the site, go over our daily tasks, and keep our workspace spotless.

We must make the necessary corrections as soon as possible, perform a 360 degrees of our workspace, write a risk analysis at the start of the shift or a change of task and above all, have your mind set on safety.

Be safe!
